New sidewalk projects being planned by the City for 2025.

On Monday, February 3rd, Columbia City Council held public hearings and approved two sidewalk projects aimed at expanding pedestrian access and improving safety for residents.
These projects, primarily funded through state and federal grants, will help fill gaps in Columbia’s sidewalk network, particularly in areas near schools, parks, and community services.
The newly approved projects include the construction of a sidewalk along the south side of Vandiver Drive between Oakland Gravel Road and Parker Street and the construction of a sidewalk along the west side of Oakland Gravel Road between Blue Ridge Road and Smiley Lane
While Columbia has many areas identified for sidewalk improvements, these specific projects were not selected based on their ranking in the city’s sidewalk matrix. Instead, they were prioritized due to the availability of federal funding. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) allocated Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant funds to support these projects, covering most costs. TAP grants will fund 80% of the project, while the remaining 20% will come from the City of Columbia’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP), which is supported by the quarter-cent Capital Improvement Sales Tax.
