AIR POLLUTION

Educating the public about car-traffic
pollution health harms

CAMPAIGN SUMMARY

Local Motion is leading an educational campaign in partnership with the EPA in Columbia’s five Vision Zero priority neighborhoods to address the environmental injustices caused by the car-centric transportation system. Car-centric culture places low-income communities and communities of color at higher risk of environmental and public health harms and excludes them from decision-making processes that can create healthy environments.

We are partnering with the EPA to engage with resident leaders and community organizations that have equity and climate action missions to provide education, gather input, assess needs, and empower residents to engage with decision-makers.

CAMPAIGN GOALS

  • Educate community members in Vision Zero priority neighborhoods about the connections between transportation policy, air pollution, and health.

  • Lower emissions and air pollution — particularly in Vision Zero priority neighborhoods.

  • Improved access to decision-making and community resources for impacted community members.

  • Improve transportation policies and infrastructure to support a reduction in car-traffic pollution.
