Help Shape the Future of Transportation in Missouri
Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is asking the public to weigh in on their goals and objectives for the Long Range Transportation Plan.
At Local Motion, we believe that every Missourian deserves safe, connected, and accessible transportation options — whether you walk, roll, bike, or ride transit. Right now, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is asking the public to weigh in on their goals and objectives for the Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP), a 25-year vision for the state’s transportation system.
This is the final public engagement opportunity before MoDOT drafts the plan. That means the feedback we give now will help determine which projects get prioritized and funded for decades to come. We have a chance to make sure multimodal needs — like sidewalks, bike networks, safe crossings, and reliable transit — are front and center.
What is the LRTP?
The LRTP is MoDOT’s roadmap for how they’ll plan, fund, and build the state’s transportation system. When decisions are made about how to improve safety, expand access, or invest in infrastructure, the LRTP will guide those choices.
The Six Goals in the Current Draft
MoDOT’s draft goals are:
Stewardship: Maintain current assets and services.
Safe: Enhance safety for all transportation users.
Prosperous: Boost the economy through transportation investments.
Reliable: Ensure efficiency and reliability in the network.
Connected: Improve mobility and connect communities through more multimodal choices.
Innovative: Integrate new technologies for a future-ready system.
How to Take the Survey
Take the MoDOT Goals and Objectives Survey here
Deadline: Friday, September 12, 2025
The survey takes a little more time than most, but your input can have a real impact. Here’s how to highlight walking, biking, and transit:
Question 2:
Move the two multimodal funding options (one for within cities, one for between cities) to the top of your priority list. Move “expanding the transportation system” to the bottom.
Goal: Safe (Questions 6 & 7):
Choose “Reduce barriers to access and provide protection for vulnerable road users” and modify it to: “Develop a statewide active transportation plan that will reduce barriers to access and provide protection for vulnerable road users.”
Goal: Connected (Questions 12 & 13):
Choose “Consider preservation and provision of additional multimodal connectivity during project development” and modify it to: “Require preservation and provision of additional multimodal connectivity during project development.”
This language sends a clear message: Missourians want MoDOT to create a statewide active transportation plan and do more to prioritize the needs of people who walk, roll, bike, and use public transit.
Why This Matters
Once the LRTP is finalized, it will shape Missouri’s transportation investments for the next quarter-century. Your voice can help ensure our state builds a system that is safe, equitable, and accessible for everyone — not just those who drive.
