Vélo Vino Vici: Bike Wine Conquer

Vélo Vino Vici is a celebration of women on bikes.

Local Motion created Vélo Vino Vici in 2016 to draw attention to the history of the bicycle as a tool for women's liberation, and to encourage more women to ride bikes.

The bicycle's early popularity meant that women had access to their own form of transportation. They were able to leave the house and travel across town to run an errand, visit a friend, go to work, or simply get outside.

It changed what clothes were considered acceptable — shifting fashion trends towards more comfortable and practical dresses, skirts, and bloomers (rather than constrictive corsets or weighty petticoats). And, women even began to earn athletic recognition in competitive bicycling events.

The bicycle allowed women to discover new freedoms and roles in public life that wouldn't have been previously possible.

Vélo Vino Vici brings women and gender non-binary folks together and creates a space just for them — where they are welcomed and celebrated, and where riding a bike feels exciting and accessible.

What to Expect

Vélo Vino Vici is a women-only event. The event is organized by women, for women. This ride celebrates the significant role the bicycle has played in women’s empowerment and independence.
We welcome women to bike or walk the event. The distance between stops is short, so it’s an easy bike ride and a manageable walk. 21 years and older only.

If you’re not a woman but still want to be involved, contact us to volunteer to help with the event.

  • This is a bike ride, so ride your bike (or walk!) to the start!
  • No need for spandex or padded shorts. Dress for an evening on the town.

Please be sure to bring a photo ID — we will be verifying that each attendee is over 21.

  • If you're going to ride after dark, YOU MUST BRING LIGHTS! To stay safe and legal, we recommend having a white front light and a red rear light. If you don’t have lights, you can pick them up from any of the local bike shops.
  • We will provide snacks before and during the ride, but we encourage you to eat before you arrive.
  • Please be sure you know what the traffic laws and rules of the road are while you’re on a bike. We will expect everyone to abide by them to stay safe and legal.
  • Bring a bike lock. Not all locations will have bike racks but please use them when possible. Please don’t block sidewalks when parking your bike.
  • We will give you a set of tickets, a map, and a list of the stops. When you arrive at the stop, you will trade in your ticket for a wine sample.
  • We will travel in groups from one stop to the next and will let you know when it’s time to move to the next stop.

If you pre-ordered a t-shirt, we will have it ready for you to pick up when you check in for the event.

If you didn’t pre-order but are interested in buying a shirt, we will have some available to buy at the start.

We will have a bike mechanic available for support during the ride to assist with any mechanical issues.

We will have a check-out table at the end of the ride. Please be sure to stop at the table so we know you’ve finished the ride!
